Fall of Angels
Some of the ,angels revolted against God, and he cast them down into Hell and into everlasting fire.
These are the demons or the angels of the Devil, who make it their business to tempt men, and cause them to rebel against God.
One of these malicious spirits made use of the serpent, and persuaded the woman to eat of the fruit of the tree,
which God had forbidden them. She eat of it, and made her husband to eat of it.
Upon, this, God cursed the serpent, and declared that of the woman, there should one be born, who should crush his head;
that is to say, the Saviour of the world, who should come one day to destroy the power of the Devil.
He drove Adam and Eve out of Paradise; and they remained in a very miserable state.
Concupiscence
They lost the grace of God, and became the slaves of the Devil, and liable to death,
and to all the incenveoiencies of the body, and moreover to ignorance and to concupiscence.
Concupiscence is the love of ourselves, which turns us off from loving God our- Creator;
and from hence come all the sins which lead to eternal death.
As Adam and Eve had not children till after their sin, their children were born subject to the same miseries as themselves,
and made them pass to their posterity: insomuch, that all men are born in sin, enemies to God, and designed for Hell.
It is this evil, which we call original sin.
CS Lewis
In the first letter to Mr Warmwood, CS Lewis says that to distract a man of science from
his pursuit for God is to present him with what is normal and natural, like a newspaper boy or
tram moving through the street. The physical hunger is also a good tool from removing a man from
a path of reason that might question that perhaps it is false to believe that God doesn't exist.
The best sciences that help a wise man to forget the pursuit of truth are sociology and psychology.
